At WPC, our work is only as strong as the people behind it. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight team members like Chris Sabia, whose passion, perseverance, and dedication have helped shape both our projects and our culture. Since joining WPC in 2003, Chris has exemplified what it means to grow with a company that puts people first.

A Lifelong Calling
Chris’s love for construction began with a simple but powerful curiosity: how do things come together? As a kid growing up in a neighborhood filled with new homes under construction, he found himself drawn to the job sites—not just for the action, but for the process. “I was 8 years old, picking up trash just to be around the crews,” he recalls. “I watched them frame walls, pour foundations, and bring something to life out of nothing. I was hooked.”
It wasn’t just the tools or machinery that fascinated him—it was the way every piece had a purpose. The way beams, bolts, and blueprints all came together like building blocks to create something real, something lasting. That early hands-on exposure planted the seed of a lifelong passion for building—not just structures, but a career filled with meaning.
Years later, while working at a site development company, Chris came across WPC. A quick search told him everything he needed to know. “When I looked up WPC, I saw more than a company—I saw a place that felt like home,” he says. “It was clear they valued their people and took pride in every project. I knew I had to be a part of it.”

From Assistant Superintendent to Respected Leader
Chris began at WPC as an Assistant Superintendent at just 24 years old—the youngest employee at the time. While he had started down the traditional college path, it quickly became clear that the classroom wasn’t where he thrived. “Reading, writing, typing—that wasn’t my strength,” he shares candidly. “But working with my hands? Building things? That’s where I came alive.”
Rather than letting those academic struggles define him, Chris doubled down on what he knew: hard work, curiosity, and the belief that he could build something greater—for himself and his family. “I knew I had to prove to myself that I could be more. I didn’t want to be held back by what I wasn’t good at—I wanted to grow by leaning into what I was.”
From those early years at WPC, Chris taught himself the skills he once avoided, learning everything from project documentation to technical coordination—on the job, in real time. His story is one of resilience and grit, and a testament to the belief that passion and persistence can outbuild any obstacle.

Career Highlights: Breadth, Depth, and Big Impact
Among the many projects he’s contributed to, one stands out: the Fort Drum Power Plant project—a monumental $12 billion undertaking with over 3,000 people onsite and 21 cranes in play. “It was massive,” says Chris, “but we were responsible for some unique and complex pieces in the four-stage process of power generation. It was the kind of job that challenges you—and rewards you.”
In addition to landmark projects like Fort Drum, Chris has worked across multiple sectors and service types, from ground-up construction to renovation work of every scale. His experience reflects the diversity of WPC’s portfolio—ranging from hospitality and multifamily housing to senior living and commercial development. His hands-on expertise embodies the WPC promise: delivering high-quality results through collaboration, innovation, and precision at every phase of construction.
What Makes WPC Different?
For Chris, WPC stands apart because of its people-first approach. “The leadership has always given me space to grow—enough rope to take risks without letting me fail too hard. And they make it fun. There’s a family atmosphere here that makes all the difference.”
Advice for the Next Generation
“You have to know what you want—and be willing to work for it,” he says. “This industry will test you, but that’s where the growth happens. Resilience is everything. There will be days you get it wrong, but if you’re committed to learning and improving, you’ll go far.”
Chris encourages new team members to take on challenges outside their comfort zone—especially in a company like WPC, where the work spans hospitality, multifamily, senior living, student housing, and more. “Each project type brings new puzzles to solve. It’s about figuring out how all the parts fit together—and that’s where it gets really interesting.”
Over the years, Chris has become a go-to resource for younger teammates who want to understand not just how to build, but why things are built the way they are. “If you’re curious, ask. If you’re unsure, try. That’s how I learned. Now, I get to help others find their way—and there’s nothing more rewarding.”
A Day in the Life
A typical day for Chris? It’s nonstop—and he wouldn’t have it any other way. From the moment he walks onto the job site, Chris is juggling multiple projects in various phases of construction. He’s coordinating subcontractors, checking in on timelines, navigating unexpected changes, and making critical decisions that keep things moving forward. No two days look the same, and that’s part of what fuels his drive.
But what truly sets Chris apart is the way he leads—with a steady mix of hustle and heart. Amid the controlled chaos of construction, he always makes time to listen. Whether it’s a quick check-in with a field crew or a problem-solving conversation with a project manager, Chris believes that being present for his team is just as important as hitting milestones.
“It’s not just about managing the work—it’s about supporting the people doing it,” he says. That mindset is deeply embedded in WPC’s people-first culture, where collaboration, respect, and shared accountability lay the foundation for every successful project. For Chris, it’s that balance—of pushing hard and showing up for others—that defines his role and keeps him energized day after day.
